GENESIS

Earth eternal
A photographic homage to our planet in its natural state

Dear loyal TASCHEN customer,

I am extremely pleased to finally introduce you to GENESIS, a landmark publication by Sebastião Salgado, conceived, edited and designed by Lélia Wanick Salgado.

GENESIS is the result of an eight year expedition to rediscover the mountains, deserts and oceans, the animals and people that have so far escaped the imprint of modern society – the land and life of a still pristine planet. Its publication coincides with a series of GENESIS exhibitions, also conceived and curated by Lélia Wanick Salgado, the first of which just opened in London at the Natural History Museum. Next month there will be exhibition openings in Toronto, Rome and Rio de Janeiro, and this fall in Paris and Lausanne, amounting to a total of over 30 museum shows within the next few years.

“GENESIS is likely to be the most ambitious project in the history of photography.” — Süddeutsche Zeitung, Munich

To display this epic publication, we have teamed up with Japanese architect Tadao Ando, who has created a custom-built, wooden book stand which perfectly complements the book and enables you to appreciate its extraordinary visual impact with ease. Only a small print run of 3 000 signed and numbered copies of GENESIS is available. Today we would like to offer you the chance to secure your personal copy of this book which – without a doubt – is destined to become a collector’s item, much like Helmut Newton’s SUMO, which has skyrocketed in value over the years, reaching ten times its original price.

Delivery will start in May on a first-come, first-served basis. Critics and collectors who had a chance to preview the book have already rated it as one of the most important photo books ever published. I can therefore only suggest that you reserve your copy as quickly as possible as I am sure that it will sell out in the blink of an eye. Over to you!

With my best wishes,

Peace,

Benedikt Taschen

Sebastião Salgado.
